It was a hoax or more accurately, a 30-year long calculation error.  They did not want to take a chance though and in 2028 under the supervision of a demon-incarnation of All Gore, they took a drastic step that would change the world forever.
They blew up the sun.  Well more precisely, they blew in the sun.  They fired a single rocket at it.  They armed the rocket with a new type of imploding warhead that worked in theory much like a black hole.  The only tests done on it were small-scale experiments in controllable lab conditions.  No one knew what was going to happen.  But they had seven years to stress about it as the rocket made its way towards Helios.
In August 2035, the sun suddenly disappeared.  It worked, the ‘bmob’ as they called it, (bomb spelled backwards becaus
